After tearing the ligaments in his right knee while on the job and later also injuring his left knee, Danny’s pain had seriously affected his day-to-day functioning. After cortisone injections to his knees and other conservative treatments failed to alleviate his suffering, Danny was referred to Wesley Clark, M.D., for a bilateral knee replacement.
Based on Danny’s medical history, Dr. Clark recommended performing the bilateral knee replacement in an outpatient surgery center.
The replacements would be two separate procedures, with the left knee replacement scheduled about a month after the right one. Once Dr. Clark explained that he preferred to operate at a surgery center because of the lack of exposure to sick patients found in a hospital, Danny was on board with both knees being performed as outpatient procedures.
Danny performed the required exercises during his post-operative physical therapy, and after more than two years since the surgery, he is still pain free. The bilateral knee replacement has completely improved his quality of life, as he is now able to dance with Tina and boil crawfish for family gatherings.
